On a Sunday in January, Mark and I decided to rent bicycles and ride the 5 km to the temple complex of Angkor Wat. We left Siem Reap at 8am, later than planned. I needed to stop every couple of blocks for Mark to catch up. When we reached the ticket control officials near the temple entrance, we were told that we should have bought tickets (at a hefty $62 for 3 days of temple visits) 2 km earlier at the one and only Ticket Center. We headed back, got our tickets after I went 1 km beyond the ticket center in the wrong direction. It was almost noon and we were both exhausted with sore tusches. At that moment we decided to visit Angkor Wat with a tuk tuk driver the next day. Feeling good about our decision, we happily rode our bikes back to the rental agency near our guesthouse. Mark went back to our pleasant budget hotel, Tropical Breeze Guesthouse, to nap and I went to my go-to restaurant, Fifty Five. Here is a photo of the fabulous rainbow salad I had for lunch. It had pumpkin, avocado, tomatoes, beet hummus, wheat berries, cabbage and mixed greens, among other things.
